Magnesium
Multiform Harvest struvite fertilizer is unique in that it provides a good source of controlled-release magnesium to growing plants.
Magnesium is essential to all living cells and plays a major role in the translocation and utilization of phosphorus. Magnesium is also the metallic ion at the center of chlorophyll and therefore essential to photosynthesis, plant health, and bright green color. Magnesium also plays an important role as an activator for many plant enzyme systems required in growth processes.
Research indicates that millions of acres of farmland are marginal in available magnesium. Full season magnesium nutrition is key to high crop yield. A 180-bushel corn crop must absorb over 40 pounds of magnesium during the growing season.
Most plants benefit from magnesium fertilizer. In particular alfalfa, blueberry, beet, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, clover, conifers, corn, cotton, cucumber, eggplant, lettuce, onion, pepper, potatoes, pumpkin, spinach, squash, tobacco, tomato, and watermelon. Legume crops require high levels of magnesium as well as seedlings growing in cool, moist soils.
Plants deficient in magnesium may exhibit pale and curled leaves, pre-harvest leaf drop, weakened stalks, and long branched roots. Magnesium toxicity is rare.
